THE PATH TO VICTORY

“For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body you will live”

Romans 8:13

On Sunday I talked a bit from the verse in Galatian’s 2:20. I have been crucified with Christ. Its no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me.

Now this verse in Roman 8:13 is how we walk in this reality. Its our part that we have to play. We have to believe in faith Galatians 2:20 and then daily walk it out. When we give our lives to Christ we are imparted with the very nature of Christ, but that does not mean the old nature is eradicated but it has been rendered powerless as we consider it true. This verse in Romans tells us how.

Another rendering of the verse goes like this

“But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you are habitually putting to death, making extinct, deadening the evil deeds prompted by the body you shall really and genuinely live forever.”

Sin still dwells in our body. We will be tempted with sin until the day we die. It has been rendered powerless according to us counting it as true. This is where we need the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to resist temptation and we have to habitually put that into practise every day. We put it to death every time it raises its ugly head during the day. Its by His power saying no to sin. I’m dead to sin. I am crucified with Christ. There has to be a resistance on our part not in our own strength but His strength and power given by the Holy Spirit. That’s why we have to be filled and empowered with the Holy Spirit. Its Him working mightily in us.
